    An opportunity to using technology in the classroom is that you are able to keep up with students' interests. A challenge is that technology can take up a lot of time. As a teacher, you might have to troubleshoot, which is time off task and time for students to get bored. Also, most students will want to log onto other websites if you are using a computer.
    I hope to learn and incorporate all the new education tools that Google has created. I've looked into them slightly, and they seem very interesting!

    Three Qualities I hope to embody as a teacher: Challenging, Empathetic, Interesting
    Opportunities and Challenges of Technology in the Classroom: I would love to be able to integrate the kinds of technological tools that will interest my students with the lessons plans that will provide them with the content they need to learn. I think a problem with English sometimes arises when students feel disconnected from the material they're reading, and so maybe technology can help me gap that bridge for them. A challenge will be using technology in the right way so it remains a useful tool and not a distraction or a waste of class time.
    One thing I hope to learn: I want to be more tech-savvy so that I never have to say, "I had this planned but now I can't figure it out so we'll have to skip it" or "something messed up with this program, I don't know how to fix it, and now I've lost some of your grades" (both of which have happened to me as a student).

    a teacher. I received an Associates Degree from Richard Bland: The Junior College of William and Mary in 2010. After completing my Associates, I transferred into The College of William and Mary and received a Bachelors of Arts Degree with a History Major in the spring of 2012. Currently, I am participating in the Secondary Social Studies 5 Year Masters of Education Program at the College of William and Mary's School of Education. I hope to complete and graduate the program at the finish of the 2013 Spring Semester.

    I received my bachelor's degree in mathematics from William and Mary and now I am in the M.A.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics Education program.
    As a teacher, I hope to inspire students to view mathematics as a beautiful way of thinking, I hope to be able differentiate my instruction to the point that everyone is challenged, and most importantly I hope to be excited about what I am doing every day.
    I think technology use in the classroom can often be a waste of time--I base this off some time I spent interning with local middle school. Often, students don't understand how to use the technology and/or why they are using it. I think that the instances where I have seen it used (such as apps on Ipods for practicing Algebra) have been a waste of time that could have been used to build understanding.
    However, I think that if properly used technology can be used to easily visualize through modeling and simulations different concepts that are otherwise difficult to illustrate. Information can be easily transferred through technology as well.

    I hope to learn how to use technology efficiently and productively, instead of as a way to meet quotas (like I saw during my internship).

    which can help address students with different learning styles. It can also help encourage a more dynamic learning environment. One of the challenges of technology use in the classroom is that it could be viewed as more of a distraction if students or teachers have trouble understanding or using the technology.
    Through this class I hope to learn specific ways to effectively use technology in my future secondary social studies classroom to further student learning.
